A charity providing free oracy workshops for pupils at state schools, delivered by lawyers

Not every child in the UK receives the same opportunites for education as one another. At Lawyers4Learners, we bring the professional experience of lawyers into state schools to try and even up the playing field.

How? By providing free oracy workshops to all state school pupils giving them a chance to learn and improve their negotiating, debating, argument creating and public speaking skills.

“By empowering children with extra skills that can be used outside the classroom we are helping them to achieve their best and realise their full potential,”

Michael Schumm, Head Teacher at St Stephen’s C of E Primary School and trustee of Lawyers4Learners.

  • “The children loved it. It was great for them to do something a little different from their usual lessons… I also liked how the children were given a current issue to discuss. It not only resonated with them but also made them feel like they were discussing something important. Would definitely do it again.”

Zoe Marchant, Year 6 Teacher, St Stephen’s C of E Primary School

  • "I really want to do this again because it really helped my confidence"

Nawel, year 6 pupil, Colville Primary

  • "Amber was just full of it after her L4L session!! She really loved it! She told me all about the process of the court, the detail of the trial and her role and responsibilities. Thank you - one inspired 10 year old!"

Laura, parent of Amber, year 6

  • "It was amazing! I feel more confident speaking publicly in front of my class mates and teachers. I really enjoyed the mock trial, please come back again."

How do we work?

We collaborate with schools

We want to ensure that pupils from less advantaged backgrounds are getting the education they need to succeed and the only way we can help with that is by listening to schools. Our workshops are designed WITH shools to ensure that pupil’s gain from our volunteers’ experience in a meaningful way.

We work with primary and secondary schools

Through our research of other oracy charities and providers we found that the education of these skills are lacking in primary schools so we have included them in our workshops. It is never to early to find your voice!

We foster community links

We try to match our volunteer lawyers with schools close to where they live or where they work. By doing this, we create a greater bond between volunteer and their local community, making the volunteer experience more meaningful and fulfilling.
